Tales of the Wizard of Oz was a 1961 animated television series, produced by Crawley Films for Videocrafts (later known as Videocraft and ultimately Rankin/Bass). This was the second animated series produced by the studio, and the first by Rankin/Bass to feature traditional animation.
The series featured stories derived from characters created in L. Frank Baum's book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Several characters were given additional names, including Dandy Lion, Rusty Tin Man, and Socrates the Scarecrow.
Artistic renditions of the Oz characters created for this series were later featured in the hour-long television special, Return to Oz.
As of 2008, this series has yet to be released on DVD.

Preparation
Ghee is made by simmering unsalted butter in a large pot until all water has boiled off and protein has settled to the bottom. The cooked and clarified butter is then spooned off to avoid disturbing the milk solids on the bottom of the pan. Unlike butter, ghee can be stored for extended periods without refrigeration, provided it is kept in an airtight container to prevent oxidation and remains moisture-free. Texture, colour, or taste of ghee depends on the source of the milk from which the butter was made. In India, ghee is usually made with water buffalo's milk as it tends to be whiter than cow's milk.[citation needed]
Religious uses
Ghee was frequently used for libations in Vedic rituals (see Yajurveda), and there is even a hymn to ghee. Ghee is also burnt in the Hindu religious ritual of Aarti and is the principal fuel used for the Hindu votive lamp known as the diya or deep. It is used in marriages and funerals, and for bathing murtis during worship. In other religious observances, such as the prayers to Shiva on Maha Shivaratri, ghee is sacrificed along with four other sacred substances: sugar, milk, Dahi or yogurt, and honey which is called the Panchamrut. According to the Mahabharata, ghee is the very root of sacrifice by Bhishma. Also, it is used generously in Homam/Yagnam as it is considered as food for Devas (God).
Ayurvedic medicine
Ayurvedic medicine attributes many physical and mental healing qualities to ghee, including the following:
Absorption: Ghee is an integral part of the practice of ayurvedic herbal formulation. Since ghee is an oil, it can bond with lipid-soluble nutrients and herbs to penetrate the lipid-based cell membranes of the body. It is stated to increase the potency of certain herbs by carrying the active components to the interior of the cells where they impart the most benefit.[citation needed]
Digestion: The ayurvedic texts say that ghee helps balance excess stomach acid, and helps maintain/repair the mucus lining of the stomach.[citation needed]
Mild Burns: Like aloe, ghee is said to prevent blisters and scarring if applied quickly to affected skin. Also, ghee stored over a longer time has more medicinal value.[citation needed]
Basically Hinduism is not a religion but a way of life. It is based on the Vedic traditions and beliefs. The word hindu is not for religion but is a derivative of word Sindhu. The civilisation on the other side of Sindhu (indus river )is called Hindu. Hinduism does not have a single book to follow as religion. It has many spiritual scriptures evolved from Ved, Upnishads, Bhagwat Gita and others.
Outside India
Several cultures make ghee outside of India. Egyptians make a product called ???? ???? (samna baladi, literally meaning "local ghee"; i.e. Egyptian ghee) virtually identical to ghee in terms of process and end result. In Ethiopia, niter kibbeh (Amharic: ??? ?? ni?er ?ib?) is made and used in much the same way as ghee, but with spices added during the process that result in a distinctive taste. Moroccans (especially Berbers) take this one step further, aging spiced ghee in the ground for months or even years, resulting in a product called smen. In Northeastern Brazil, a non-refrigerated butter very similar to ghee, called manteiga-de-garrafa (Butter-in-a-bottle) or manteiga-da-terra (Butter of the land), is extremely popular.
Nutrition and health concerns

Like any clarified butter, ghee is composed almost entirely of saturated fat. Ghee has been shown to reduce serum cholesterol in one rodent study. Studies in Wistar rats have revealed one mechanism by which ghee reduces plasma LDL cholesterol. This action is mediated by an increased secretion of biliary lipids. The nutrition facts label found on bottled cow's ghee produced in the USA indicates 8mg of cholesterol per teaspoon.
Indian restaurants and some households may use hydrogenated vegetable oil (also known as vanaspati, Dalda, or "vegetable ghee") in place of ghee for economic reasons. This "vegetable ghee" is actually polyunsaturated or monounsaturated partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, a trans fat. Trans fats are increasingly linked to serious chronic health conditions. Not only is "vegetable ghee" implicated in causing high LDL, it also lacks the health-promoting...(and so on)

Stockinette stitch
Stockinette stitch (in the UK, Stocking Stitch) is the most basic knitted fabric; every stitch (as seen from the right side) is a knit stitch. In the round, stockinette stitch is produced by knitting every stitch; by contrast, in the flat, stockinette stitch is produced by knitting and purling alternate rows.
Stockinette-stitch fabric is very smooth and each column ("wale") resembles a stacked set of "V"'s. It has a strong tendency to curl horizontally and vertically because of the asymmetry of its faces.
Reverse stockinette stitch is produced in the same way as stockinette, except that the purl stitches are done on the right side and the knit stitches on the wrong side. In the round, reverse stockinette stitch is produced by purling every stitch.
Garter stitch

Garter stitch
Garter stitch is the most basic form of welting (as seen from the right side). In the round, garter stitch is produced by knitting and purling alternate rows. By contrast, in the flat, garter stitch is produced by knitting every stitch (or purling every stitch, though this is much less common).
In garter-stitch fabrics, the "purl" rows stand out from the "knit" rows, which provides the basis for shadow knitting. Garter-stitch fabric has significant lengthwise elasticity and little tendency to curl, due to the symmetry of its faces.
Seed stitch
Seed stitch is the most basic form of a basketweave pattern; knit and purl stitches alternate in every column ("wale") and every row ("course"). In other words, every knit stitch is flanked on all four sides (left and right, top and bottom) by purl stitches, and vice versa. Seed stitch is also known as Moss Stitch.
Seed-stitch fabrics lie flat; the symmetry of their two faces prevents them from curling to one side or the other. Hence, it makes an excellent choice for edging, e.g., the central edges of a cardigan. However, seed stitch is "nubbly", not nearly as smooth as stockinette.
Faggoting
Faggoting is a variation of lace knitting, in which every stitch is a yarn over or a decrease. There are several types of faggoting, but all are an extremely open lace similar to netting. Like most lace fabrics, faggoting has little structural strength and deforms easily, so it has little tendency to curl despite being asymmetrical. Faggoting is stretchy and open, and most faggoting stitches look the same on both sides, making them ideal for garments like lacy scarves or stockings.
Tricot knitting
Main article: tricot
Tricot is a special case of warp knitting, in which the yarn zigzags vertically, following a single column ("wale") of knitting, rather than a single row ("course"), as is customary. Tricot and its relatives are very resistant to runs, and are commonly used in lingerie.

A noodle is food made from unleavened dough that is cooked in a boiling liquid. Depending upon the type, noodles may be dried or refrigerated before cooking. The word noodle derives from the German Nudel (noodle) and may be related to the Latin word nodus (knot). In American English, noodle is a generic term for unleavened dough made from many different types of ingredients. Noodles exist in an abundance of shapes.
The first written account of noodles is from the East Han Dynasty between AD 25 and 220. In October 2005, the oldest noodles yet discovered were found at the Lajia site (Qijia culture) along the Yellow River in Qinghai, China. The 4,000-year-old noodles appear to have been made from foxtail millet and broomcorn millet..

The first celebrity edition of Pinoy Big Brother, entitled Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition is a special edition of the original show. Its first edition officially began on February 5, 2006 and ran for 56 days (up to April 1, 2006), this new edition auditions Filipino celebrities from different fields such as those from movie and television, sports figures, notable personalities, and professional models. The prizes at stake cost three million Philippine pesos, which includes a million pesos for the winning housemate, another million for the winner's chosen charity, and another million for the charity of Big Brother's choice. Aside from the cash prizes, a condominium unit in Valenzuela City is also at stake.
The Big Brother house that is used on this edition is the same as the house used on the first season, although there were some changes in the house's interior.
The show began with a welcome party along Manila Bay. They were transported by yacht before the chosen housemates was formally introduced and were taken to the Big Brother House. It was supposed to be held on February 4, 2006, but because of the stampede that occurred on another ABS-CBN show earlier that day, it was rescheduled to the following night (February 5) by the network. To commemorate this, a prayer which is lead by Jesuit priest Fr. Tito Caluag, S.J., a minute of silence and a performance of "You Raise Me Up" were done before the show started. Furthermore, Myx VJ Luis Manzano played pinch hitter for Willie Revillame, who was at the time still devastated by the said stampede (he was also the host of the said program).
Furthermore, host Toni Gonzaga becomes the main host for the nomination and eviction nights, a job that she played in the first season as a substitute for Revillame.
Talk show host Boy Abunda hosted the Big Debate, a debate show which celebrity supporters of the four housemates. The debate was held two nights before the Big Night.
The edition uses a different theme song, entitled Sikat Ang Pinoy (Filipinos Are Famous) by Sam Milby and Toni Gonzaga, although the original theme song Pinoy Ako is occasionally used.
The program is produced and can be seen through ABS-CBN, Studio 23, the show's 24/7 cable channel, and the internet (ABS-CBN Now).
This is a version of the Celebrity Big Brother format seen in other countries.
A second Celebrity Edition premiered October 14, 2007.

House interior theme
Initially, the concept of the Big Brother House for the celebrity edition is going back to basics. On the first day the Big Brother House initially has no furniture or appliances (save for the plasma TV and refrigerators). This was also seen in Big Brother Bulgaria Season 2. Another concept in this edition is getting away of one's comfort zone, forcing the housemates to use a stick for brushing their teeth, clay jars and an outdoor kitchen for cooking, bare hands for eating, and a water pump for potable water. All pieces of furniture provided to them were even made of bamboo.
After two weeks, Big Brother lifted the "Back to Basics" concept after seeing the housemates adapting to the said lifestyle, despite difficulties. The so-called "Forbidden Room," a pink-walled room with beds and mattresses reserved only for eviction nominees, became the ladies' bedroom, while the bamboo beds in the eventual men's bedroom were suddenly covered with mattresses. Earlier, they were provided with a microwave oven, an electric stove, utensils, and some toothbrushes and were allowed to use the swimming pool at any time, as well as wearing footwear indoors. Later, sofas (and a center table) replaced the bamboo benches in the living room.

History
Fair Oak takes its name from a tree in the Square which was felled and replaced in 1843. The village has a history of sand quarrying, with some of the newer parts built over old restored quarries. The central church of St Thomas was originally built in 1863 to serve as a chapel of ease for Fair Oak cemetery. At this time the village was part of the parish of Bishopstoke with its church of St Mary; the present parish was created in 1871.
The village
The church, which has been designated a beacon church for the Winchester diocese, has links with Kware, a suburb of Nairobi in Kenya, via a hospital and school mission. This mission called Handshake to Kware is a registered charity and is supported by the local schools and businesses. The village has also played host to a series of annual Christian outreach programmes in recent years. It is home to two scout groups, the 7th and 8th Eastleigh.
Fair Oak has a village hall and four pubs: 'The George', 'The Cricketers', 'The New Clock Inn', and 'The Fox and Hounds'. The latter recently closed down, due to financial problems.
Education
There are three schools - infant, junior, and a secondary school called Wyvern Technology College, which is host to a large gym for public use. It is home to a football team in the Southampton tyro league. There is also a Christian school called 'The King's School'.
Stoke Park Wood
Stoke Park Wood to the north-west of the village (a remnant of the Forest of Bere) lies partly in Fair Oak and partly in the neighbouring parish of Bishopstoke. With many bridlepaths running between the two villages via the woods, it is possible to walk from one village to another without setting foot on any other public highway. The woods cover some 207hectares (510 acres) and are primarily of evergreen trees; the sandy soil and long grass is home to wildlife including dormice, grey squirrels, pine martens, deer and adders.
Geology
Fair Oak lies on the London Clay deposits of the Hampshire Basin, to the northern edge of a small syncline separated from the main basin by the Portsdown anticline. The London Clay in this area, towards the top of the sequence, is fairly sandy and includes lenticular sand deposits. The sand pits on the east of the village are in the Whitecliff Sand. At Knowle Hill and south towards Horton Heath the London Clay is overlain by the clays and sands of Wittering Formation of the Bracklesham Group, with a small outlier capping Pylehill to the north.

A well nut a type of fastener used to blindly fasten a piece (much like an molly bolt) and to seal the bolt hole. It consists of a flanged neoprene bushing with a nut embedded in the non-flanged end. The bolt is passed through one of the pieces to be fastened and threaded onto the nut from the flanged end. The non-flanged end is then inserted through the other piece to be fastened. As the bolt is tightened, friction from the neoprene flange against the piece being fastened prevents the nut from turning. Wakeskating is a water sport and an adaptation of wakeboarding that employs a similar design of board manufactured from maple or from fibreglass. Unlike wakeboarding, the rider is not bound to the board in any way, which gives the sport its own unique challenges. Instead, the top surface of the board is covered with griptape, (in a similar fashion to a skateboard) or a soft, high-traction, foam covering that is kinder to riders in the inevitable crashes. Riders usually wear shoes while riding to afford themselves extra purchase on the board, similar to skateboarding.
Some of the earliest riding to resemble wakeskating dates back to the late '70s and early '80s with freeboarding or wakesurfing. Originally, riders would surf behind boats with long boards, but eventually the evolution leaned towards boards that were much shorter (ex:4'8) which allowed riders to launch airs off the wake and even ollie. However, the watersports industry leaned strongly towards bindings, resulting in the focused evolution of wakeboarding. Wakeskating would eventually begin to take notice in the mid '90s, and the growth continued. It is increasingly popular in youth culture across the globe, but is prevalent mainly in its country of origin, the United States. An aspect of wakeskating that draws many aficionados to it, as opposed to wakeboarding, is progression without the need for the large and extremely expensive boats (necessary to create the wake for wakeboarders to achieve maximum air time). An alternative to using wakeboard boats to tow riders is using high powered jet skis. This method of watercraft can provide an adequate tow, with little or no wake. Jet skis are better for shallow water or where water obstacles are available to perform tricks on.
Wakeskating tricks are inherently more technical than wakeboarding. The tricks are based firmly on skateboarding as opposed to snowboarding. Numerous tournaments and competitions exist throughout the world for the sport of wakeskating.

Types of Boards
Bi-level
One type of board is a bi-level wakeskate. The bi-level was first used on a wakeskate by one of the forefathers of wakeskating, Thomas Horrell. It is basically two boards usually made of maple veneers and/or fiberglass connected in the middle by two brackets. The point of having a bi-level wakeskate is that the flex in the top board helps accelerate the board from the water, which allows the board to stay with your feet and also feel more like an ollie on a skateboard.
Concave
The other type of board is a Concave deck, usually either compression molded out of fiberglass, or a wood core deck. Compression-molded wakeskates are less dense than wood core wakeskates, which is one factor that will cause a board to sit higher in the water (along with rail shape--a sharper rail will make the board sit higher and ride with a high response level; round rails allow a board to sit deeper in the water). Conversely, wood core decks tend to be a tad bit heavier, and are denser, which make them favored by most wakeskaters. It has been said that wood core deck feels more like a skateboard and is easier to control/feel.
Size
Wakeskates usually size between 100-114cm (roughly 39-45 inches), which is considerably smaller than a wakeboard. Rail shape can vary from a more rounded shape, which is common on most wood skates, to a sharper rail, which was traditionally found on compression-molded decks, and a resurgence in the variable edge, which means the rail will be rounded in the middle and sharp on the edges. Today, a variable edge can be found on numerous wakeskates, since it allows for forgiveness on rails and lip tricks, but also allows you a sharp edge for cutting into the wake.
The Rise of the Industry
Smaller rider-owned companies have started to make their mark on the sport of wakeskating.
New materials and assembly techniques are continually introduced into the sport of wakeskating. Traditional boards are made of plywood or fiberglass, but a new technology has come out called Tri-Ax Fiberglass reinforcing. A woven fiberglass top sheet is applied. This process helps the board to be more rigid and increases the life of the board.

Plot summary
Hot Shots has been described as "Top Gun meets Airplane!". The film begins at Flemner Air Base 20 years prior. A pilot named Leland "Buzz" Harley (Bill Irwin) loses control of his plane and ejects, leaving his co-pilot Dominic "Mailman" Farnum (Ryan Stiles) to crash alone; although Mailman survives, he's mistaken for a deer owing to the branches stuck to his helmet and is shot by a hunter. Topper Harley (Charlie Sheen) wakes up from a nightmare he's having about the event when Lt. Commander Block (Kevin Dunn) asks him to return to active duty as a pilot in the U.S. Navy. This poses a dilemma for Harley, as he previously left the Navy to live with Native Americans.
Harley becomes romantically involved with his therapist, Ramada (Valeria Golino), although she's already involved with another fighter pilot (Cary Elwes), who hates Topper because of the loss of his father to Buzz Harley (and believes Topper may do the same to him). Amid the chaos, the owner of an aerospace firm is trying to sabotage the mission in order to make the current fighter jets look bad in hopes that the Navy will replace them with his German-made jets. However, Topper Harley successfully completes the mission to destroy a nuclear power plant despite his jet's malfunctioning armament.

Hot Shots was both a critical and commercial success, grossing over $180 million worldwide and tallying 81% positive reviews on review-collection website Rotten Tomatoes.
Sequel
In 1993, a sequel was released, Hot Shots! Part Deux, which parodied the action genre, primarily the Rambo films. Jim Abrahams returned as director, as did actors Charlie Sheen, Valeria Golino and Lloyd Bridges (all reprising their roles from the first film), as well as Jerry Haleva as Saddam Hussein, who had a larger role in the sequel. Ryan Stiles returns in a new role. The film also starred Richard Crenna, Rowan Atkinson and Miguel Ferrer. Unlike the well-received Hot Shots!, reviews for the sequel were mixed. Nonetheless, Part Deux was still a financial success at the box office, grossing over $130 million worldwide.

Work box
The most common type of decorative box is the feminine work box. It is usually fitted with a tray divided into many small compartments for needles, reels of silk and cotton, and other necessaries for stitchery. The date of its origin is unclear, but 17th-century examples exist, covered with silk and adorned with beads and embroidery.
No lady would have been without her work box in the 18th century. In the second half of that century, elaborate pains were taken to make these boxes dainty and elegant.
Work boxes are ordinarily portable, but at times they form the top of a stationary table.
Jewelry box

A jewelry box, also known as a casket, is a receptacle for trinkets, not only jewels. It may take a very modest form, covered in leather and lined with satin, or it may reach the monumental proportions of the jewel cabinets which were made for Marie Antoinette, one of which is at Windsor Castle, and another at the Palace of Versailles; the work of Schwerdfeger as cabinetmaker, Degault as miniature-painter, and Thomire as chaser.
Strong box
A strong-box is a receptacle for money, deeds and securities. Its place has been taken in modern life by the safe. Some have extremely elaborate locks, such as Sir Thomas Bodley's strong-box in the Bodleian library, which has a locking mechanism in the under-side of the lid.
Knife box
The knife-box or knife-case, a receptacle for knives and other table cutlery, is one of the most charming of the minor pieces of furniture which we owe to the artistic taste and mechanical ingenuity of the English cabinet-makers of the last quarter of the 18th century. Some of the most elegant and often ornate were in the styles of Robert Adam, George Hepplewhite and Thomas Sheraton. Occasionally flat-topped containers, they were most frequently either rod-shaped, or tall and narrow with a sloping top necessitated by a series of raised veins for exhibiting the handles of knives and the bowls of spoons. Mahogany and satinwood were the woods most frequently employed, and they were occasionally inlaid with marquetry or edged with boxwood. These graceful receptacles, often made in pairs, still exist in large numbers; they are often converted into stationery cabinets. Another version is an open tray or rack, usually with a handle, also for the storage of table cutlery.

A Bible Box is a box made to hold a Bible. These boxes started being manufactured in the 17th century.

An ui is a woman's ornamental case, usually carried in a pocket or purse. It holds small tools for daily use such as folding scissors, bodkins, needles, hairpins, tweezers, makeup pencils, etc. Some uis were also used to carry doctors' lancets. These boxes were made of different materials such as wood, leather, ivory, silver, gold, tortoise shell, mother of pearl, and shagreen.
Wooden wine box
Wooden wine boxes, also known as wooden wine crates are used to ship and store expensive wines in transit. Most wineries that use wooden boxes engrave their logo and designs on the front panel. These panels are usually highly detailed and used by wine collectors as decoration pieces for their bars or wine cellars. A typical wooden wine box holds either six or twelve 750 ml bottles.

One of the more functional types of decorative boxes is the snuff box, which is now largely a relic of the once popular practice of taking snuff. At one time, this tiny decorative but utilitarian box was an indispensable accessory for every man of birth and breeding from the 18th century through the middle of the 19th century.
Artisans, such as the jeweller and the enameller bestowed infinite pains upon this object, which was as much a delicate bijou as a piece of utility. Gentlemen of Quality, fops, and dandies possessed a great variety of snuff-boxes, some of which were quite rich in detail, with frames of gold encased with diamonds. Other boxes were more ordinary. Made with potato-pulp, the cheapest wood available, they were extensively used.

Walter E. Diemer (8 January 19059 January 1998) was an accountant and inventor of bubble gum.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, 23 year old Diemer was working as an accountant at Fleer in 1926 when the company president sought to cut costs by making their own gum base. (Founder Frank Henry Fleer had made a batch of bubble gum in 1906 which he called Blibber Blubber, but it was too sticky and broke too easily.)
Although an accountant by trade, Mr. Diemer liked to experiment with gum recipes in his spare time. In doing so, he accidentally stumbled upon a recipe that was totally unique. The gum was pink because it was the only food coloring in the factory, which is why most gum today is pink.
It was less sticky (would not stick to the face) than standard chewing gum yet stretched more easily. He saw the possibilities and using a salt water taffy wrapping machine, wrapped one hundred pieces of the creation to test market in a local mom-and-pop candy store. They sold out in one day priced at one penny a piece.
Fleer began marketing the new gum as "Dubble Bubble" and Diemer himself taught salesmen to blow bubbles. This helped them to demonstrate how Dubble Bubble differed from all other chewing gums.
Sales surpasses US$ 1.5 million in the first year, at a penny a piece. Diemer did not patent his invention, and soon competition arose as bubble gum became a popular inexpensive treat during the Great Depression.
According to his wife, Walter Diemer never received royalties for his invention but he didn't mind. She also said he oversaw construction of bubble gum plants in Philadelphia and Barcelona, Spain, and travelled around the world marketing the gum. He stayed with Fleer for decades, eventually reaching the position of senior vice president as well as a member of the Board of Directors of Fleer Corporation. He retired in 1970, and remained on the board for 15 more years.
He died of congestive heart failure on his 93rd birthday.

Gun salutes are the firing of cannons or arms as a (military or naval) honor.
The custom originates in naval tradition, where a warship would fire its cannons harmlessly out to sea to show that it was disarmed, signifying the lack of hostile intent.
As naval customs evolved 21 volleys came to be fired for heads of state, with the number decreasing with the rank of the recipient of the honour. Multiples of 21-gun salutes may be fired for particularly important celebrations.

The tradition of saluting can be traced to the Middle Ages practice of placing oneself in an unarmed position and, therefore, in the power of those being honored. This may be noted in the dropping of the point of the sword, presenting arms, firing cannon and small arms, lowering sails, manning the yards, removing the headdress or laying on oars.
The gun salute might have originated in the 17th century with the maritime practice of demanding that a defeated enemy expend its ammunition and render itself helpless until reloaded a time-consuming operation in that era. Also, the gun salute was established as a naval tradition by the late sixteenth century. A man o' war which visited a foreign port would discharge all its guns to show that its guns were empty. Since the ship would not have enough time to reload before it was within range of the shore batteries, it was clearly demonstrating its friendly intentions by going in with empty guns.
Salute by gunfire is an ancient ceremony. The British for years compelled weaker nations to render the first salute; but in time, international practice compelled "gun for gun" on the principle of equality of nations. In the earliest days, seven guns was the recognized British national salute because seven was the standard number of weapons on a vessel. In that day, gunpowder made from sodium nitrate was easier to keep on dry land than at sea. Thus those early regulations stated that although a ship would fire only seven guns, the forts ashore would fire three shots to each one shot afloat, hence the number 21.
The system of odd numbered rounds is said to have been originated by Samuel Pepys, Secretary to the Navy in the Restoration, as a way of economizing on the use of powder, the rule until that time having been that all guns had to be fired. Odd numbers were chosen, as even numbers indicated a death.
With the increase in quality of naval gunpowder, by the use of potassium nitrate, honors rendered at sea were increased to the shore salute. 21 guns became the highest national honor, although for a period of time, monarchies received more guns than republics. Eventually republics gained equality in Britain's eyes.
India during the period of British rule developed a formal hierarchical system of gun salutes. Apart from the 101 gun Imperial salute reserved for the British monarch, the more important of the hundreds of vassal rulers of princely states involved in indirect rule were classified by the number of guns used when paying honors to them, signifying their prestige in the eyes of the British. The highest of these so-called "salute states" (also in some other parts of the British Empire) enjoyed 21 guns (Hyderabad, Patiala, Berar, Mysore, Jammu and Kashmir, Baroda, and Gwalior). For years, a few rulers not formally under the control of the British were granted 21 guns (Nepal, Oman, Mosquito Coast and Zanzibar) or even 31 guns (Afghanistan and Siam).
There was much confusion because of the varying customs of maritime states, but finally the British government proposed to the United States a regulation that provided for "salutes to be returned gun for gun." The British at that time officially considered the international salute to sovereign states to be 21 guns, and the United States adopted the 21 guns and "gun for gun" return on August 18, 1875.

Liar's dice, or Liar dice, with roots originating in South America and popularized in early Spanish History, was brought to Spain by the Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro during the 16th century. Liar's Dice is known for being a game in pirate history, and a name for a class of dice games for two or more players. They are easy to learn, require little equipment, and can be played as gambling or drinking games. Playing them well requires the ability to deceive and detect an opponent's deception.
Versions of the game are known as Dudo or Cachito in South America. The equivalent drinking game is sometimes called Mexicali or Mexican in the United States; the latter term may be a corruption of M?xchen ("Little Max"), the name by which the game is known in Germany.
There are at least three different versions of Liar's Dice; it's uncertain which version is the original. In all of them, dice are rolled in a concealed fashion and bids made about the result of the roll. Players must then either raise the bid or challenge the previous bid in turn. For the purposes of this article, the three versions discussed are referred to as "individual hand", "common hand", and "Mexican".
In "common hand", each player has a set of dice, all players roll one and the bids relate to the dice each player can see (their hand) plus all the concealed dice (the other players' hands).
In "individual hand", there is one set of dice which is passed from player to player. The bids relate to the dice as they are in front of the bidder after selected dice have been re-rolled.

Five six-sided dice with traditional dot faces are generally used per player, with dice cups used for concealment. Poker dice can also be used, but some systems for bidding become difficult or impossible to use.
Each round, the players roll their dice while keeping them concealed from the other players. One player begins bidding, picking a quantity of a face 2 through 6. The quantity states the player's opinion on how many of the chosen face have been rolled in total on the table. A 1 ("ace") is often wild and counts as the stated face of the current bid, however the game can also be played without wilds (see variants). In a five-dice, three-player game with wilds, the lowest bid is "one 2" and the highest bid "fifteen 6s In turn, each player has two choices; believe the previous bid is true and make a higher bid, or challenge the previous bid as being wrong. Raising the bid means either increasing the quantity, or the face value, or both, according to the specific bidding rules used. Different bidding rule sets are described below.
If the current player thinks the previous player's bid is wrong, he challenges it, and then all dice are revealed to determine whether the bid was valid. Revealing the same number or more of the relevant face than was bid is a successful bid, in which case the bidder wins. Otherwise the challenger wins. A challenge is generally indicated by simply revealing one's dice, though it is customary to verbally make the challenge, by saying "I call you up", "I call", "You're a liar", or simply "Liar".
Example: if a bid of "seven fours" is challenged, the bid is successful (and the player who made it wins) if there are seven or more fours, or less than seven fours but enough wild aces (1s) to total seven or more fours and aces (four fours and three aces, or five fours and two aces). The bid fails (the bidder is a Liar and the challenger wins) if there are fewer than seven total fours and aces combined (or if aces are not wild; see variants).
Bidding Rules
The most common systems for bidding are listed below, in order of the amount of restriction they place on bidders. All variants are described in relation to the face value and quantity of the previous bid.
The player may bid an increased quantity of the same face, or any quantity of a higher face. Given a bid of "three twos", the minimum raise is either "four twos" or any quantity of "threes". This is very common as it generally gives players many options, allowing for the most information to be gained. However, as the face...(and so on)
